The Story

Thanos has the Gauntlet and wants to impress Death. Adam Warlock gathers every hero left to assault him, and the fight is a massacre; then the cosmic entities try, and that goes worse. The ending turns on Nebula and a mistake Thanos makes because, as Warlock says, he doesn't believe he deserves to win.

Why Read It

It's the most-requested Marvel back-catalog trade for a reason: the whole story in one book, Pérez drawing a hundred characters per page, and the version of Thanos that the films adapted. A standard first Marvel trade.

Do I need Infinity Gauntlet's lead-ins?

No. Thanos Quest explains how he got the Gems, but this stands alone.
