Shelf Talker: Amazing Spider-Man: Halloween Special #1 (2026) — Hallows' Eve Ruins Spidey's Night Off

Peter Parker wants exactly one thing on October 31: a couch, a bowl of fun-size chocolate, and a scary movie he's seen a dozen times. He is not going to get it. Amazing Spider-Man: Halloween Special #1 hits shops Wednesday, October 21, 2026, and Hallows' Eve has other plans for his night off.

The Setup
This is a 32-page Marvel one-shot written by Justina Ireland with pencils by Mike Hawthorne, inks by Wade von Grawbadger, colors by Erick Arciniega, and letters by VC's Joe Caramagna. Marvel's pitch is simple: the Trick is Hallows' Eve attempting her biggest heist yet, one that puts the entire 616 at risk; the Treat is a new costume for Spider-Man. There are also, in Marvel's words, some "Spidey secrets hidden away in this issue."
If you have not met her, Hallows' Eve is Janine Godbe, created by J.M. DeMatteis and John Romita Jr. for Spider-Man: The Lost Years back in 1995. She wears enchanted masks that transform her into whatever the mask depicts, which makes her the ideal antagonist for a Halloween book: every new mask is a new super-powered problem for Spidey. The preview pages show her in full witch mode, broom and all, cursing Spider-Man into a mummy wrap and leaving him webbed to a lamppost while trick-or-treaters debate whether his costume is the right color.
Two backup stories fill out the issue. Ty Templeton contributes one, and Lee Gatlin draws a short where Doctor Octopus hunts for candy he swears was in the pantry while Kraven, Sandman, and Electro are glued to a fighting game. It's a lighter book than the main Amazing Spider-Man title and reads as a standalone — nothing here requires you to be caught up.
Why Collectors Care
Costume debut. New Spider-Man suits have a long track record of driving back-issue interest, from the black suit in Amazing Spider-Man #252 to the more recent Beyond and Spider-Man 2099-era looks. Whether this one sticks around past the one-shot is unknown, but "first appearance of a costume" is the kind of line that ends up on a slab label.
Hallows' Eve is having a moment. She headlined her own 2023 miniseries, showed up in Dark Web, Blood Hunters, and Chasm: Curse of Kaine, and now gets a Halloween special built around her. Character-spotlight one-shots are cheap to collect now and tend to get picked over once a villain lands in a show or game.
Three covers, no ratios. Cover A is Mike Hawthorne with Alex Sinclair colors. Paco Medina (with Edgar Delgado) and Todd Nauck (with Rachelle Rosenberg) drew the two open-order variants. No incentive covers means no artificial scarcity — the Hawthorne cover is the one that shows up in most collections and the one we stock.

Seasonal shelf appeal. Holiday one-shots are a real sub-collection. Hanging-Spidey covers with jack-o'-lanterns, bats, and a skull-toting Hallows' Eve do exactly what a Halloween cover is supposed to do.
Price and Availability
Cover price is $4.99. We're listing it at $5.89, bagged and boarded. We have 10 copies of Cover A on hand and they ship from St. Louis on or after the October 21 street date. Fair market value right now is cover — this is a new release, not a spec book, and we'd rather tell you that than pretend otherwise. If the costume carries into the main title, that changes; until then, buy it to read it.
