A giant-sized anniversary slugfest pitting two of Marvel's heaviest hitters against each other.

The issue

In "Monster!," the Silver Surfer — stranded on Earth and barred from returning to his homeworld Zenn-La and his beloved Shalla-Bal — hatches a plan to absorb the Hulk's limitless power and shatter the barrier holding him captive. The Hulk, naturally, is in no mood to cooperate, and the two titans collide in a double-sized brawl. It's exactly the kind of marquee anniversary matchup the round number invites.

• The Hulk / Bruce Banner — targeted as a power source by a desperate Silver Surfer, with predictably explosive results.
• Silver Surfer — Galactus's former herald, trapped on Earth and willing to try almost anything to get home.

Meet the creators

Bill Mantlo was one of Marvel's most prolific writers of the late 1970s and '80s, scripting long runs on The Incredible Hulk, Spectacular Spider-Man, and Micronauts, and co-creating enduring characters including Rocket Raccoon and Cloak & Dagger. His writing career was cut short in 1992 after he was seriously injured in an accident; fans and colleagues have continued to honor his contributions to the medium in the years since.

Sal Buscema, younger brother of fellow Marvel legend John Buscema, built one of the longest and most consistent art careers in company history, drawing extended runs on The Incredible Hulk, The Avengers, and Spectacular Spider-Man across multiple decades. Known for reliably clean, expressive storytelling, he became one of the artists most associated with the Hulk's Bronze Age adventures.

What it's worth

A solid Bronze Age issue. Raw VF/NM copies typically run $20–$50; CGC 9.8 copies generally trade $150–$350, climbing whenever interest in Sabra spikes (e.g., around her MCU appearance). The draws are the giant-sized Hulk/Surfer fight and that first Sabra cameo.
