TASCHEN's Marvel Comics Library: The Silver Age on Your Shelf

Why this collection matters

TASCHEN's Marvel Comics Library reprints the early Silver Age stories that built the Marvel Universe. Each volume gathers the original stories for one character or team, from the early 1960s through the late 1960s. They are the best way to read the source material as the creators first published it.

What each volume reprints

  • Avengers 1963–1965 and Vol. 2 (1965–1967). Thor, Ant-Man, the Wasp, the Hulk, and Iron Man joined forces in 1963 to form the Avengers.
  • Spider-Man 1962–1964. The early web-slinger stories, created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko.
  • X-Men Vol. 1, 1963–1966. The first 21 X-Men stories, from the team's launch.
  • Fantastic Four Vol. 1, 1961–1963. The first stories of Marvel's flagship family team, created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby.
  • Incredible Hulk 1962–1966. The Incredible Hulk issues 1 through 6.
  • Silver Surfer 1968–1970. All 18 Silver Surfer stories from the 1968 series, by Stan Lee and John Buscema.

Why collectors and new readers should care

The creative teams behind these books shaped the modern superhero. Stan Lee wrote most of the stories with artists including Steve Ditko, Jack Kirby, and John Buscema. Reading the original stories shows how the characters, teams, and voices took shape before later decades added their own layers.

For collectors, the set works as a shelf of core Silver Age runs in one consistent format. For new readers, it is a clean entry point that skips the continuity tangles of later decades.
