- 1941: Artist Neal Adams was born. His late-1960s and 1970s run reshaped the look of Batman and, alongside writer Denny O'Neil, brought a grittier realism to the Dark Knight and to the socially charged Green Lantern/Green Arrow team-up. He was also a tireless advocate for creators' rights.
- 1945: Writer Don McGregor was born. His Black Panther saga "Panther's Rage" stands as one of the first long-form, novelistic story arcs in mainstream superhero comics.
- 1955: Artist Brent Anderson was born. He drew the landmark graphic novel X-Men: God Loves, Man Kills and the acclaimed series Astro City.

Avengers: Armageddon reshapes Earth's Mightiest Heroes
Marvel's summer centerpiece is well underway. According to Marvel, Avengers: Armageddon is a five-issue event from writer Chip Zdarsky with art by Frank Alpizar and Delio Diaz, and it follows the fallout after Doctor Doom's defeat as Thunderbolt Ross takes control of Latveria and renames it "New America." The publisher describes the series as the most far-reaching shake-up for the team since Avengers Disassembled, with Steve Rogers sidelined while the Avengers and Fantastic Four try to stop Ross. According to Marvel, the event leads directly into a new Avengers #1 from Zdarsky and Marco Checchetto this November.
